Google enters 3.6-GW power deal with Constellation Energy
CEG•Google contracted for 3,590 megawatts of power from Constellation Energy, including 890 megawatts from upgraded nuclear plants under a 20-year agreement. Constellation plans to invest more than $4.3 billion in its generation fleet, with electricity from the first upgraded plant expected in 2028.
1. Power supply agreements
Google contracted for 3,590 megawatts of power from Constellation in the PJM grid. The agreement includes a 20-year purchase agreement for 890 megawatts from upgraded Constellation nuclear plants and a separate 15-year supply agreement for 2,700 megawatts not tied to a specific generation source.
2. Upgrades and investment
Constellation plans to invest more than $4.3 billion in its generation fleet, including upgrades to 11 nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Electricity from the first upgraded plant is expected to be delivered in 2028.
3. Grid demand
The companies said the deal responds to PJM’s proposal that data center customers bring their own power. Rising electricity demand, largely driven by data center expansion, has contributed to an increase of more than 11 times in PJM capacity prices since 2024 and left the grid with a power shortfall.
