Google guarantees $3.2 billion as data centre values surge to $3 billion
Zurich warns data centre values jumped from $150 million to $3 billion, outstripping insurance capacity and prompting securitisation talks to spread risk. Google has guaranteed $3.2 billion for its Lake Mariner data centre, deploying thousands of TPUs leased to Anthropic to reduce Nvidia reliance.
1. Insurance Capacity Strain on Data Centres
Zurich reports that data centre values within its portfolio have climbed from $150 million to $3 billion, exceeding current insurance limits. Insurers are exploring securitisation and insurance-linked securities to broaden risk distribution and restore capacity for high-value AI infrastructure projects.
2. Google's Lake Mariner Guarantee and TPU Deployment
Google has issued a $3.2 billion financial guarantee for the Lake Mariner data centre in New York, planning to install thousands of Tensor Processing Units. The site will lease AI compute power to Anthropic, aiming to build an integrated hardware-software offering and lessen dependence on Nvidia GPUs.
