1. Google Confirms Project Cannoli
Google announced it will operate a 1-gigawatt data center code-named Project Cannoli in Van Buren Township, Michigan, ending months of speculation about the facility’s developer.
2. Site Specifications and Approvals
The facility will span 130 of a 282-acre site with five buildings totaling over 800,000 square feet and is expected to use 2.0–3.6 million gallons of township-supplied water per day; the Planning Commission granted preliminary site plan approval but final site plan and development agreement still require Board of Trustees sign-off.
3. Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Costs
Under an agreement with DTE Energy, the data center will tap 2.7 gigawatts of solar and advanced storage resources, with Google covering all electrical infrastructure costs to protect local ratepayers and bolster grid resilience.
4. $10M Energy Impact Fund
Google will establish a $10 million Energy Impact Fund for local organizations to help lower residential and community utility bills across Michigan.
