Google to invest $15 billion in Malaysia in 2027 and 2028
Google will invest $15 billion in Malaysia from 2027 to 2028 for data centre campuses, clean energy, water security and worker training. The construction phase is expected to contribute an average of $1.1 billion annually to Malaysia’s GDP and support more than 37,000 local jobs per year.
1. Investment plans
Google plans to build data centre campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, in addition to its operational campus at Elmina Business Park in Selangor. The investment will also support clean energy, water security and worker upskilling.
2. Jobs and energy
Google said construction is expected to contribute an annual average of $1.1 billion to Malaysia’s GDP and support more than 37,000 local jobs per year. Once operational, the facilities are projected to sustain more than 9,000 local jobs annually, with wages averaging 45% above the national median.
3. Additional commitments
Google plans to add more than 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity to Malaysia’s national grid and said it will pay for all power used by its campuses and the direct infrastructure costs to connect them to the grid. It also plans four programmes to upskill 800,000 Malaysians over the next five years.
