Grab agrees to driver fee cuts and deduction cap in Vietnam, watchdog says
GRAB•Grab agreed to reduce some passenger and driver fees in Vietnam, cap combined fees at 32% of passenger payments and reimburse drivers about 3.9 billion dong ($151,869). It also plans 912 billion dong in driver support and 1.8 trillion dong in passenger promotions in the fourth quarter.
1. Fee changes and reimbursement
Vietnam’s competition commission said Grab agreed to reduce some app usage fees charged to drivers and cap the combined fees it collects at no more than 32% of the amount passengers pay. Grab will reimburse about 3.9 billion dong ($151,869) after finding that about 0.13% of trips since 2024 had deductions above 35%, partly because of algorithm errors or supply-demand fluctuations.
2. Spending and oversight
The watchdog said Grab plans to spend about 912 billion dong ($35.51 million) on driver incentives and operating-cost support, and 1.8 trillion dong on passenger promotions in the fourth quarter. The review followed driver complaints about falling fares, commissions and other deductions; the commission said it would monitor the measures and could act if it found violations.
