Chicago wheat falls on peace-hope profit-taking
Chicago wheat futures dropped by more than 2% on Thursday after Russian President Vladimir Putin said there was a chance of a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
Traders said the comments triggered profit-taking after prices hit 3-1/2-year highs this week on growing concerns about the war disrupting crucial Black Sea grain exports from Russia and Ukraine.
The most-traded wheat contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) Wv1 was down 2.4% at $7.55-1/4 a bushel by 0832 GMT, retreating from Wednesday's peak of $7.95.
The benchmark fell by as much as 2.9% shortly after Putin's remarks.
