Greece finalises deal to buy Embraer KC-390 aircraft
ERJ•Greece finalised a deal worth up to €600 million to buy three Embraer KC-390 military aircraft, with an option for three more. The Hellenic Air Force is due to receive its first aircraft in 2027.
1. Deal details
The agreement was signed in Athens by Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and Portuguese Defence Minister Nuno Melo. The Greek parliament approved the deal in June. The three aircraft will cost about €550 million to €600 million.
2. Military capability
The acquisition will give the Greek Air Force its first aerial refuelling capability for its fighter jets. The KC-390 can also be used for military transportation.
3. Production links
The aircraft are partly produced in Portugal. OGMA, which is 65%-owned by Embraer and 35% held by the Portuguese state, produces central fuselage parts for the programme that are shipped to Brazil for final assembly.
