Greif Commits to SBTi Targets and Highlights Zero Landfill, $1.1B Sustainability Revenue

Greif has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative to set near-term and long-term greenhouse-gas reduction targets, including Scope 3 emissions, and will submit them for SBTi validation. Its 17th Sustainability Report shows zero landfill at 155 sites, solar VPPA in Spain and $1.1 billion revenue from 3.7 million reconditioned containers.

1. SBTi Commitment

Greif has formally joined the Science Based Targets initiative, pledging to develop and submit near-term and long-term greenhouse-gas reduction targets—including Scope 3 value chain emissions—for independent SBTi validation under the Net-Zero Standard. The company will announce its approved targets once the external review is complete.

2. 2025 Sustainability Report Highlights

In its 17th annual Sustainability Report, Greif reports zero landfill status at 155 global facilities, activation of a virtual power purchase agreement supporting solar power in Spain, and on-site solar installations in Costa Rica and China. The report also notes 88% waste diversion, launch of EcoBalance Low Carbon Emission Steel Drums, and $1.1 billion generated from 3.7 million reconditioned containers.

3. Historical Track Record

This initiative represents Greif’s fifth generation of climate targets since 2007, building on a two-decade record of meeting prior goals. The company maintains strong third-party ratings—CDP B, MSCI AA, ISS ESG—and has been recognized as a leading responsible enterprise and workplace.
