Grifols says Canada plasma license suspension has no impact
GRFS•Grifols said Health Canada’s suspension of its Taylor Avenue plasma collection license in Winnipeg would not affect operations because the company had already voluntarily halted collection there.
1. Collection already halted
Grifols said Health Canada suspended the Taylor Avenue facility’s license after raising concerns about its quality management system following a donor’s death last year. The company said donor and patient safety, and the quality and safety of plasma collected at its Canadian centers, had not been compromised.
2. Review and reopening plan
Grifols said it was working with the regulator on a reopening plan and had reviewed operations across its centers, including staff retraining and improvements to procedures and quality systems. The company said it accelerated its acquisition of the remaining stake in Canada Plasma Inc. after assuming effective control and following deficiencies identified by Health Canada at several donation centers.
