GXO research shows rising UK fuel costs drive fleet shift to alternative fuels
GXO•GXO research found that 63% of more than 1,000 UK logistics decision-makers said fuel costs are accelerating interest in alternative-fuel vehicles, and 38% already operate them. While 87% prioritize emissions cuts, 76% require clear cost savings or efficiency gains to invest.
1. Fuel costs drive interest
GXO research found rising operating costs are now a stronger driver of UK fleet fuel-transition decisions than net-zero commitments. Among more than 1,000 UK logistics decision-makers surveyed, 63% cited fuel costs as accelerating interest in alternative-fuel vehicles, and 38% said they already operate them.
2. Investment and infrastructure
Emissions cuts remain a priority for 87% of respondents, but 76% require clear cost savings or efficiency gains to unlock investment. A quarter have started planning charging or refueling investment, while 30% have begun planning energy-supply procurement. By 2028, respondents expect multiple viable diesel alternatives, led by LNG/CNG at 70% and electric HGVs at 68%.
