Hanover Insurance names COO Richard Lavey CEO-elect as CEO John Roche set to retire end-2026

The Hanover set a CEO transition, with John C. Roche to retire as president and CEO on Dec. 31, 2026. Chief Operating Officer Richard W. Lavey was named CEO-elect.
Lavey’s role and background
Lavey also serves as president of Hanover Agency Markets, overseeing core commercial and personal lines representing 75% of $7 billion gross premiums written.
He joined Hanover in 2004, previously holding senior roles including chief marketing officer, president of personal lines, and president of the northeast region.
Before Hanover, Lavey held leadership roles at The Hartford and The Travelers Insurance Company, spanning sales, distribution, marketing, and strategy.
