Harmonic Powers KBRO’s Multi-Gigabit Broadband with Fiber-On-Demand XGS-PON

HLITHLIT

Harmonic announced that Taiwan’s KBRO will deploy its fiber-on-demand solution across its network, leveraging the cOS virtualized broadband platform to enable on-demand XGS-PON expansion. The rollout uses existing Oyster Remote-PHY nodes to activate multi-gigabit services precisely where customer demand is highest, reducing redundant infrastructure.

1. Partnership Details

Harmonic has partnered with KBRO, a leading Taiwan multiple-system operator, to expand fiber deeper into KBRO’s next-generation broadband access network. This collaboration builds on KBRO’s DOCSIS high-split modernisation strategy and leverages the cOS virtualized broadband platform to support multi-gigabit service delivery across the operator’s footprint.

2. Technology Implementation

The fiber-on-demand solution enables surgical activation of advanced fiber services via existing Harmonic Oyster Remote-PHY nodes, eliminating the need for duplicate network builds. By integrating XGS-PON upgrades with KBRO’s DOCSIS infrastructure, the deployment accelerates multi-gigabit connectivity while aligning capital expenditure directly with revenue-generating demand.

3. Strategic Implications

Focusing fiber expansion where demand is strongest allows KBRO to cost-effectively scale network capacity and capture high-value broadband subscribers. For Harmonic, the project underscores its growing presence in APAC fiber modernization and showcases its cOS platform’s reach, which already powers nearly 41 million CPE devices worldwide.
