Harmonic Powers TDF to Add Sixth HD Channel with AI Compression

HLITHLIT

TDF modernized its terrestrial broadcast network with Harmonic's XOS Advanced Media Processor and ProStream X, enabling support for six linear HD channels within the same multiplex bandwidth that previously carried five. The software-based XOS processor uses AI-driven PURE compression and dual-site architecture to boost channel capacity, resiliency and bandwidth efficiency.

1. TDF Network Modernization

Harmonic’s XOS Advanced Media Processor and ProStream X Video Stream Processor are live across TDF’s terrestrial broadcast network in France, replacing previous infrastructure to boost channel throughput and video quality.

2. Expanded Channel Capacity

The upgraded system supports six linear HD channels—BFM TV, CNEWS, CSTAR, NOVO19, T18 and GULLI—within the multiplex bandwidth that formerly carried only five HD streams.

3. AI-Driven Compression and Resiliency

The software-based XOS processor uses AI-driven PURE compression and HEVC encoding with HDR Dolby Vision support, while dual-site architecture ensures maximum uptime through geographically separated headends.

4. Strategic Impact for Harmonic

Securing a major contract with TDF underscores Harmonic’s leadership in bandwidth-efficient broadcast solutions and could drive further software and processor sales across European DTT networks.
