Hartford President Mo Tooker to succeed Swift as CEO
HIG•The Hartford said President Morris “Mo” Tooker will become CEO in March next year, succeeding Christopher Swift, who will become executive chair.
1. Leadership transition
Tooker, who joined The Hartford in 2015 as chief underwriting officer, will join the board in October. He currently oversees business performance, strategy and enterprise-wide execution, and has focused on expanding underwriting capabilities, broadening risk appetite and growing risk-mitigation services.
2. Swift’s tenure
Swift has been CEO for nearly 13 years and will remain involved in corporate strategy and oversight as executive chair. He plans to step down from that role in the second half of 2027. The company said its share price increased more than eightfold under Swift, while property and casualty written premiums nearly doubled to $18 billion in 2025.
