1. Layoff Notifications and Impact
Hawaiian Airlines has issued 48 additional WARN notices to nonunion employees slated for layoff between May and June, bringing the total WARN letters since the $1.9 billion acquisition by Alaska Air Group to 418. Of these, 302 workers have already separated under integration milestones.
2. Workforce Remains Stable with New Hires
Despite the cuts among interim roles, the combined carrier has hired over 1,200 new employees, primarily in unionized positions in Hawaii, and sustains a workforce exceeding 6,500 in-state and more than 7,200 systemwide.
3. Integration Milestones Drive Future Cuts
The most recent WARN notices correspond with the transition to a unified passenger service system scheduled for late April, and the company anticipates additional duplicative noncontract positions will end as further integration milestones are achieved.
4. Union Negotiations Underway
Joint collective bargaining negotiations continue for flight attendants, pilots and ground workers, with a key vote determining whether IAM or AMFA will represent mechanics and related staff at the merged airline.
