Hurricane Lowell triggered widespread power outages on Oahu, disrupting Hawaiian Electric service across the island.
About 21,000 customers were without electricity as of 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2026, concentrated on the Leeward and Windward coasts.
Damage assessments began early Tuesday; restoration timelines were not provided pending completion of inspections.
Flooding, fallen trees, storm debris and road closures may slow repairs in some areas.
On Maui, service was restored to about 2,700 customers in Waiehu; fewer than 30 remained out on Hawaii Island.
