Hawaiian Electric restores power to Kalaupapa after Hurricane Nolo damages line
HE•Hawaiian Electric restored power to Kalaupapa after Hurricane Nolo damaged a power line on Sept. 27, supporting the planned return of about 60 residents, patients and staff who were temporarily relocated Sept. 11.
1. Power restored
Hurricane-force winds damaged the conductor serving Kalaupapa on Sept. 27. Crews installed a new conductor from the ridge top down to the settlement with helicopter support; remote terrain and right-of-way access issues at the top of the Kalaupapa Trail delayed the repairs.
