HEI•Plan supports 2045 clean power goal
The plan is aimed at accelerating the retirement of aging plants and supporting Hawaiʻi’s goal of 100% renewable power by 2045, amid rising electricity demand.
Renewables and storage procurement launched
Hawaiian Electric, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries, launched an Integrated Grid Planning request for proposals for renewables and storage across Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island and Maui to cut oil use.
The procurement targets about 1,650 GWh of variable renewables, 465 MW of grid-forming solar-plus-storage and 111 MW of firm capacity for 2031-2034 service.
