Hawaiian Electric works to restore power to remaining Hurricane Lala outages on Hawaii Island

Hawaiian Electric continued restoration work on Hawaii Island on Aug. 29, 2026, with several hundred customers still without power after Hurricane Lala.

Remaining outages were concentrated in hard-to-access areas or tied to damage on customer-owned equipment, slowing re-energization despite repaired utility infrastructure.

Wood Valley faced extended disruption after flooding washed out roads and more than a dozen utility poles, requiring rerouted lines and new pole installations.

Mutual-aid crews from Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, and Southern California Edison supported repairs, targeting remaining “pocket” outages.
