Health insurers fall after UnitedHealthcare, Aetna announce 2027 plan designs

UnitedHealth and CVS Health shares fell nearly 1%, while Elevance Health slipped 2% and Humana was down about 1%. UnitedHealthcare and Aetna said they plan to limit provider access for members in their 2027 Medicare Advantage plans.

Humana said it will offer plans in over 80% of U.S. counties next year, compared with 85% in 2026. J.P. Morgan analysts said Medicare Advantage reimbursement rates are still failing to keep pace with medical cost trends, prompting benefit cuts and market exits as insurers prioritize margin protection over membership growth.
