HII Ingalls chief says shipyard has capacity to grow as demand rises
HII•Ingalls outlines capacity strategy
Huntington Ingalls management outlined a capacity strategy centered on workforce expansion, higher production efficiency and distributed shipbuilding partnerships.
Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Blanchette cited more than $1 billion invested since 2015 to raise throughput.
Blanchette said Ingalls expects to deliver three ships over the next 12 months.
Workforce plans include apprenticeship pipelines, training programs and a five-year labor agreement with an immediate 18% wage increase.
Production initiatives include additional automation, semi-automated intelligent welding pilots and serial production to improve performance across successive hulls.
