HII•Ingalls expands distributed shipbuilding on LPD 32
Huntington Ingalls’ Ingalls Shipbuilding expanded its distributed shipbuilding strategy to the Navy’s amphibious transport dock program, starting with Philadelphia (LPD 32).
Ingalls shifted modular construction of eight structural units for LPD 32 to two partner yards, with early production already underway.
The move aims to raise throughput by enabling more parallel construction, freeing Ingalls for final assembly and integration work.
HII plans to lift outsourced shipbuilding hours by 30% in 2026, with amphibious ships a major driver.
