HII Secures $151 B SHIELD Contract and Demonstrates Sea Launcher REMUS Launch

HIIHII

HII’s Mission Technologies division won a Shield IDIQ contract with a $151 billion ceiling to supply missile defense and homeland security solutions. HII also demoed its Sea Launcher automated launch and recovery of REMUS UUVs and doubled its Portchester facility to enhance European UUV support.

1. Mission Technologies Wins $151 Billion SHIELD IDIQ Contract

HII’s Mission Technologies division has secured an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract with the Missile Defense Agency under the SHIELD program, carrying a ceiling value of $151 billion. The enterprise agreement spans directed energy, command-and-control system integration, cyber operations, microelectronics, spectrum management, synthetic training environments, logistics and sustainment. Andy Green, HII’s executive vice president and president of Mission Technologies, highlighted that the award accelerates delivery of layered homeland defense capabilities and reinforces HII’s role as a strategic partner to the MDA.

2. Expansion of UK Portchester Facility Doubles REMUS Support Capacity

HII has completed a major expansion of its Portchester, UK, facility, increasing the site’s footprint by 100% and adding 25,000 square feet of integration and test space dedicated to REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). The enlarged facility now houses two additional assembly bays, enhanced hydrostatic test tanks and a mission-planning operations center. This investment strengthens HII’s ability to provide rapid lifecycle support to Royal Navy and allied customers, boosting parts on-hand by 40% and cutting average turnaround time for UUV maintenance from 60 days to 35 days.

3. Successful Shipboard Demonstration of Sea Launcher System

In a landmark trial off the Massachusetts coast, HII validated its Sea Launcher automated launch and recovery system for the REMUS family of autonomous underwater vehicles. The demonstration executed multiple end-to-end deployments and recoveries with zero human deck handling, reducing risk exposure by 70% and demonstrating full compatibility with HII’s ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels. Duane Fotheringham, president of Unmanned Systems at Mission Technologies, noted that automated operations improve mission availability by 30% in high-sea-state conditions and pave the way for expanded manned-unmanned teaming in contested maritime environments.

4. Shares Gain 10.65% Over One Week on Strong Momentum

HII shares have rallied by 10.65% over the past five trading sessions, outpacing the broader defense sector. Trading volume surged by 55% compared to the 30-day average as investors responded to the SHIELD award, facility expansion and Sea Launcher success. Analyst sentiment has turned bullish, with three major brokerages upgrading HII’s relative strength rating. Institutional ownership now stands at approximately 62%, reflecting growing confidence in HII’s diversified order book and its ability to capitalize on rising defense budgets in North America and Europe.
