HIVE Acquires 32 MW Boden Data Center, Securing 960M SEK Local Investment
HIVE•HIVE Digital Technologies has received municipal approval to acquire the 32 MW Big Boden data center in northern Sweden, transitioning from tenant to owner after investing 960 million SEK locally since 2018. The purchase cements HIVE's long-term strategy and advances plans to upgrade the facility to Tier III standards.
1. Acquisition Details
HIVE has obtained approval from the Boden Municipal Council to purchase the 32 MW Big Boden data center from Bodens Utvecklings AB, shifting from tenant to owner. The deal grants HIVE full authority over site operations and remains subject to customary closing conditions.
2. Local Investments and Partnerships
Since 2018, HIVE has invested over 960 million SEK in local contractors and renewable energy procurement in Boden, and paid more than 575 million SEK in taxes. The company sponsors 12 youth hockey teams and a women’s program and is exploring heat recovery with the municipality and RISE for community use.
3. Strategic Impact and Future Upgrades
The acquisition reinforces HIVE’s sovereign AI compute strategy by securing a permanent foothold in Sweden. Plans call for advancing the facility to Tier III infrastructure to support enterprise-scale AI and HPC workloads with enhanced redundancy and NVIDIA GPU architectures.
