Home Depot and Google Cloud launch Gemini-powered Magic Apron AI and aisle guidance pilot
At NRF 2026 The Home Depot and Google Cloud expanded their partnership to deploy Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise for CX, adding agentic AI tools such as enhanced Magic Apron and AI-driven materials list builders. Piloted at select stores, in-store AI agents combine aisle guidance and route intelligence.
1. Expanded Strategic Partnership with Google Cloud
At NRF 2026, The Home Depot announced a major expansion of its multi-year collaboration with Google Cloud, deploying Google’s Gemini and Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience to power a suite of agentic AI tools. These enhancements extend beyond simple product recommendations, enabling the retailer to deliver personalized, contextual guidance across its digital platforms. By integrating AI agents into Magic Apron, Home Depot aims to serve both DIY homeowners and professional contractors, offering project planning, material ordering and real-time support wherever customers work—from living rooms and jobsites to store aisles.
2. Magic Apron Evolves into a Conversational Digital Concierge
The Home Depot has significantly upgraded its Magic Apron assistant, transforming it into a multimodal, conversational expert for home improvement projects. Customers can describe tasks in plain language—whether fixing a leaky faucet or planning a full kitchen remodel—and receive step-by-step guidance, personalized product lists and image-based visualizations. In pilot stores, Magic Apron now provides aisle-level wayfinding, directing shoppers to the exact bay for each item and suggesting complementary materials. Nationwide rollout of this in-store AI experience is planned over the next quarter.
3. Accelerating Pro Workflows with AI-Powered Materials Lists
Since launching in beta in November 2025, Home Depot’s new AI-driven materials list builder has been scaled nationally to streamline the estimating process for professional customers. Pros can input project descriptions by text, voice or existing parts lists; the AI then generates a grouped, comprehensive bill of materials, identifying any overlooked essentials. Early users report quote preparation times reduced by up to 60%, allowing contractors and remodelers to respond faster to bids and win more business during a period of projected housing-market recovery.
