Honeywell to Deploy Modular Ecofining for Acelen’s Bahia Biofuel Refinery
HON•Honeywell will supply its modular Ecofining technology and integrated controls to power Acelen Renewables’ greenfield biofuel refinery in Bahia, Brazil using macaúba oil feedstock. The Ecofining process cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% when blended with jet fuel and shortens project timelines.
1. Partnership Overview
Honeywell will supply its modular Ecofining process technology, pump and compressor modules, and integrated control and safety systems for Acelen Renewables’ greenfield biofuel refinery in Bahia, Brazil. The facility will convert native macaúba oil into sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel at one of the world’s largest planned biofuel plants.
2. Ecofining Technology Benefits
The Honeywell UOP Ecofining process efficiently converts waste fats, oils and native feedstocks into renewable diesel and SAF, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% when blended with conventional jet fuel. Honeywell’s modular design accelerates construction schedules and lowers capital expenditures versus traditional methods.
3. Demand and Production Outlook
Global SAF demand is projected to reach nearly 500,000 barrels per day over the next decade, driving refiners to scale production rapidly. Acelen aims to meet this surge by leveraging Honeywell’s modular delivery model to fast-track refinery startup and optimize output.
4. Strategic Impact on Honeywell
With over 1,500 modular process units delivered globally, this project enhances Honeywell’s presence in sustainable fuels and underscores its Process Technology segment’s growth potential. Integration with the Experion PKS platform offers digitization and data-driven insights to maximize operational performance.
