Hong Kong stocks fall as tech shares slide, Trump-Xi summit in focus
FXI•Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 1.7% to 24,343.19, its lowest level in two months, as technology shares led losses. Investors awaited more details from the Trump-Xi summit, which produced no apparent breakthroughs on issues including AI, trade, Taiwan and Iran.
1. Tech shares lead losses
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped roughly 2%, while the Hang Seng Tech Index fell more than 2% to a three-month low and the AI sector slid nearly 3%. Trading volumes were light ahead of the local Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.
2. Investors watch summit
Investors awaited further clarity from the Trump-Xi summit. ANZ head of Asia research Khoon Goh said no breakthrough was expected, but that setting a floor for the relationship was important.
