HRLHRL

Hormel Foods completed the sale of its whole-bird turkey business to Life-Science Innovations, transferring the Melrose production facility, Swanville feed mill and related transportation assets. The company retains the JENNIE-O® brand, value-added turkey portfolio, and rights to sell Oven Ready™ turkeys as part of its strategic shift toward higher-margin proteins.

1. Transaction Completion

On April 24, Hormel Foods finalized the sale of its whole-bird turkey business to Life-Science Innovations, following the February announcement. This marks the culmination of the divestiture process under Hormel’s asset realignment plan.

2. Assets Transferred

LSI assumed control of the Melrose, Minnesota production facility, the Swanville feed mill, dedicated transportation assets and existing supply contracts with third-party hen growers. The Melrose workforce transitioned to LSI and the plant will operate as Legacy Turkey.

3. Strategic Implications

Hormel retains the JENNIE-O® brand, its ground turkey, deli meats and rights to Oven Ready™ whole birds, reinforcing a shift toward value-added proteins. The divestiture reduces exposure to commodity-driven operations and supports long-term margin expansion.
