HP is one of four PC brands qualifying Chinese DRAM chips from ChangXin Memory Technologies to alleviate a severe global memory shortage that has disrupted supply chains. The company also renewed its multi-year XGuard cybersecurity licensing with Karamba Security for networked printers for another three years.

1. Procurement Strategy Shift

In early February, HP became one of four leading PC brands qualifying DRAM chips from ChangXin Memory Technologies, marking the first push into Chinese-made memory components that have been tested for quality and performance standards.

2. Global DRAM Supply Constraints

Industry leaders Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron control over 90% of the DRAM market and have diverted capacity to high-bandwidth memory for AI data centers, creating a severe shortage in standard DRAM that has disrupted HP’s traditional supply chains.

3. XGuard Licensing Renewal

On February 3, HP extended its multi-year contract with Karamba Security to license XGuard cybersecurity software for networked and cloud-connected printers for an additional three years, reinforcing protection for firmware against cyber threats.
