Hudbay Minerals received Mines Act and Environmental Management Act permits for its New Ingerbelle expansion at Copper Mountain, securing over 800 jobs and extending mine life. The expansion is projected to yield 750,000 tonnes of copper, 900,000 ounces of gold, 5.5 million ounces silver and generate C$11.5 billion in GDP.
1. Permit Acquisition and Approval
Hudbay Minerals received amended Mines Act and Environmental Management Act permits through the British Columbia Major Mines Office for its New Ingerbelle expansion at Copper Mountain, marking a critical regulatory milestone that enables the project to proceed into development and production phases.
2. Resource Projections and Operational Efficiency
The New Ingerbelle expansion is designed to unlock higher-grade gold mineralization and reduce the stripping ratio by approximately three times compared with current mining areas, with independent estimates projecting 750,000 tonnes of copper, 900,000 ounces of gold and 5.5 million ounces of silver from existing reserves.
3. Economic Impact and Community Partnerships
By securing more than 800 direct jobs and refreshing Participation Agreements with the Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands, the project is forecast to generate C$11.5 billion in GDP for British Columbia while reinforcing Hudbay’s commitments to local communities and Indigenous partnerships.
