Hut 8 backs Abbott directive, reiterates responsible Texas data center development commitment
HUT•Hut 8 backs Texas directive on data center growth
Hut 8 backed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive to the PUCT and ERCOT on data center growth, citing grid reliability, local resources and community impacts.
The company outlined a development model built on power planning, local impact management and early regulator engagement across ERCOT behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter projects.
Hut 8 flagged about 1.5 gigawatts of utility capacity across operating and development sites in Texas, including the King Mountain and Vega projects.
The Beacon Point AI campus in Nueces County is to use batteries to mitigate voltage impacts and closed-loop cooling with water sourced outside the county.
CEO Asher Genoot said responsible growth must strengthen communities, protect grid reliability and address local resources beyond the data center footprint.
