HyOrc plans 150-tonne-per-day waste-to-methanol plant in Portugal for 2028
HYOR•HyOrc plans a Portugal waste-to-methanol facility processing 150 metric tons daily, with installation targeted to begin in 2028. The phased project includes a 35-tonne-per-day expansion supported by approximately €6.7 million in EU STEP funding.
1. Phased facility expansion
HyOrc plans to develop the facility near Porto in phases, beginning with a commercial plant processing 3 metric tons of waste daily into up to 1 metric ton of renewable methanol. A larger installation would process 35 metric tons daily into up to 8 metric tons of renewable methanol, supported by approximately €6.7 million in EU STEP funding awarded to the Portuguese project consortium.
2. Industrial-scale plans
The company plans a 150-tonne-per-day facility, with installation targeted to begin in 2028. HyOrc intends to seek EU Innovation Fund support for the industrial-scale project in 2027.
