Ibiden plans additional JPY 150 billion investment in Gama plant capacity expansion
SMH•Ibiden plans to invest an additional JPY 150 billion in Cell6 at its Gama Plant, on top of a previously announced JPY 220 billion, to produce AI ASIC package substrates, with operations starting progressively in FY2029.
1. Gama expansion
Ibiden plans an additional JPY 150 billion investment in Cell6 at its Gama Plant, beyond the JPY 220 billion previously announced. The facility will produce high-performance IC package substrates for AI ASICs, with operations starting progressively in FY2029.
2. Demand outlook
At Ono Plant, Cell8 is backed by JPY 280 billion in investment and will start operations progressively in FY2027, producing substrates for AI GPUs. Ibiden projects demand for AI GPU and ASIC substrates to rise 5.4-fold from CY2026 to CY2030, while demand for general-purpose server CPU substrates is projected to increase 2.5-fold; total substrate demand is expected to significantly exceed industry supply capacity as packages grow larger and more multilayered.
