IBM agrees to acquire HRL Laboratories
IBM•IBM•IBM•IBM•IBM agreed to acquire HRL Laboratories, a research institution jointly owned by Boeing and General Motors.
The deal targets HRL’s silicon-spin qubit and quantum sensing capabilities to broaden IBM’s quantum computing platform beyond superconducting qubits.
Boeing and GM will continue partnering with IBM on quantum applications and advanced technology development after the transaction.
IBM expects HRL to add capabilities in quantum materials, cryogenics, control electronics, interconnects, packaging and sensing to support long-term scaling.
Financial terms were not disclosed, and closing is expected by the end of Q3 2026.
