IBM Launches AI Builders Challenge with $15,000 Prize, 20,000 Schools Access
IBM•IBM has expanded free access to its AI-powered development partner IBM Bob to 20,000 post-secondary institutions and launched the AI Builders Challenge for university students. Participants compete in two monthly contests from July and August for a share of a $15,000 prize pool and hands-on AI development experience.
1. IBM Expands IBM Bob Access
IBM has made its AI-powered development partner, IBM Bob, available for free to 20,000 post-secondary institutions worldwide through its SkillsBuild platform. This expansion aims to equip faculty and students with practical AI and software development tools at no cost.
2. Launch of AI Builders Challenge
The AI Builders Challenge invites university students 18 and older to develop portfolio-ready AI projects using IBM Bob, reflecting real-world software development themes like creative industries, space exploration, and intelligent work systems. Registration opens June 3, with competitions starting July 1 and August 1.
3. Prize Structure and Support
Participants compete for a share of a $15,000 total prize pool, including a $5,000 Grand Prize and monthly awards ranging from $750 to $2,250. Students receive mentorship, office hours, webinars and submission support via GitHub and Discord, with winners showcased at IBM TechXchange.
