ICE says US mortgage delinquency rate rises 14 bps to 3.53% in August on calendar effects
ICE•ICE’s August 2026 mortgage snapshot showed the U.S. delinquency rate rose 14 basis points to 3.53%, while foreclosure starts fell 6% to 37,000.
1. Mortgage performance
Serious delinquencies increased by 11,000 to 574,000, while the serious delinquency rate held near pre-pandemic norms at 1.04%. Foreclosure sales slipped 2% to 7,800, and the pre-sale foreclosure inventory rate remained at 0.54%. Prepayments slowed, with the single-month mortality rate falling to 0.64%, its lowest level in 17 months.
