Mortgage Monitor shows record property insurance costs
ICE’s September 2026 Mortgage Monitor flagged record property insurance costs in Q2, rising 8.7% year over year as growth slowed.
- Quarterly insurance costs gained 1.8%, the smallest increase since ICE began tracking the metric.
- Insurance now averages $209 a month for single-family mortgage holders, roughly 80% above early-2020 levels.
- Property insurance represents 9.6% of the average monthly mortgage payment, ranging from 24.3% in New Orleans to 4.3% in San Jose.
