Illumina Launches StrataMap Spatial Solution with 2x Gene Detection and Single-Cell Resolution
ILMN•Illumina launched the StrataMap Spatial Solution, an end-to-end spatial whole-transcriptome research platform offering single-cell resolution across a 7.5 cm² capture area. Sequencing-based profiling detects twice as many unique genes per sample versus panel technologies and delivers sample-to-insight yields in under five days for over 2,000 annual samples.
1. Product Launch and Overview
Illumina released the StrataMap Spatial Solution, a sequencing-based, end-to-end research platform designed to map tissue architecture and function at true single-cell resolution across a large capture area.
2. Technical Features and Capabilities
StrataMap Spatial offers a 7.5 cm² capture area for serial or multiple fresh frozen tissue sections, unbiased whole-transcriptome profiling that detects twice as many genes per sample than panel methods, throughput of over 2,000 samples per year, and sample-to-insight timelines under five days.
3. Bioinformatics Integration
The solution bundles the DRAGEN StrataMap pipeline for machine-learning-driven cell segmentation and transcript assignment with Illumina Connected Multiomics for interactive spatial multiomic analysis, enabling integration of transcriptomic, genomic, epigenetic and proteomic datasets.
4. Early Research Applications
Pilot studies have used StrataMap Spatial to reconstruct 3D maps of human lymphatic collector vessels and profile primary CNS tumors at single-cell resolution, generating novel insights into tumor microenvironments and guiding precision medicine research.
