Voters lined up before dawn in Medina County as Ohio opened early voting for the midterm election, which runs through November 3. The state has a toss-up Senate race and two toss-up House races.

Democrats’ first-day turnout in Medina County exceeded Republicans’: 499 Democrats voted, compared with 374 Republicans and 291 independents. In 2024, the county recorded 369 Democratic, 702 Republican and 433 independent voters on the first day; in 2022, it recorded 139 Democrats, 198 Republicans and 68 independents.
3. Contests to watch
Republican Jon Husted and Democrat Sherrod Brown are competing for an Ohio Senate seat, while two close House races include Republican Max Miller against Democrat Brian Poindexter in the 7th District and Democrat Marcy Kaptur against Republican Derek Merrin in the 9th. Voters interviewed said they were frustrated by high prices, the war with Iran and campaign ads they viewed as deceptive or mean.
