IMF members call for more support amid war shocks, 'advanced intelligence' risks
SPY•IMF members called for more support for countries facing short-term financing challenges from war spillovers and high energy prices, and said economic risks remain tilted to the downside. The committee said advanced intelligence technologies and rising bond yields could amplify vulnerabilities.
1. Financing support urged
IMF member countries called for increased support to countries facing short-term financing challenges caused by war spillovers and high energy prices. They agreed to support countries undertaking reforms and addressing debt vulnerabilities, with particular attention to low-income and vulnerable middle-income countries and conflict-affected states.
2. Risks and technology
The committee said escalating conflicts and trade tensions could disrupt critical trade routes, worsen commodity price pressures and threaten energy and food security. Its chair's statement said uncertain effects of advanced intelligence technologies and rising bond yields in major economies could amplify macro-financial vulnerabilities. The United States reportedly pressed members to rename artificial intelligence as “super intelligence” in the statement; the final version did not refer to artificial intelligence.
