India trade minister to visit US for deal talks, New Delhi says
INDA•Trade Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5 for talks to advance a proposed bilateral trade agreement and finalise an interim deal.
1. Visit and trade talks
Goyal will hold bilateral talks with US counterparts and attend a G20 trade ministers' meeting in Wisconsin, at the invitation of US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. India's government said the discussions aim to advance a balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement and finalise an interim deal.
2. Negotiations remain unresolved
India and the United States have yet to reach consensus on a trade agreement after months of talks, with New Delhi seeking a better deal. Earlier this month, India said it had told Washington that new tariffs over purchases of Russian oil could affect bilateral ties.
