Intel Enters 18A-P Risk Production with 9% Performance Gain or 18% Power Cut
INTC•Intel’s 18A-P process has reached risk production, offering 9% better performance or 18% lower power consumption versus 18A while preserving existing IP and workflows. This aligns with booming AI infrastructure demand and a Foxconn deal to build CPU–AI-accelerator server racks with improved interconnects, monitoring and cooling.
1. Risk Production Milestone
Intel’s 18A-P manufacturing process has reached risk production, a critical development before full-scale fabrication. The next-generation node delivers a 9% performance uplift at the same power or an 18% power reduction at equivalent speeds, plus enhanced thermal management and consistent design rules that leverage existing 18A IP and workflows.
2. AI-Driven Demand and Foxconn Partnership
The announcement coincides with a surge in AI infrastructure demand that prompted Intel to sell chips previously written off in Q1. Intel also partnered with Foxconn to develop server racks combining its CPUs with AI accelerators, faster interconnects, system monitoring tools and improved cooling for data centers, robotics and autonomous applications.
