Intuitive Machines to Acquire Goonhilly Assets, Adding 44 Antennas for Deep Space Network
Intuitive Machines has agreed to acquire Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd and COMSAT, adding 44 antennas across UK and US ground stations to its space-to-ground network. The deal will expand deep space communications, data relay, and PNT capabilities for lunar and cislunar missions, and is set to close in Q3 2026 pending regulatory approvals.
1. Acquisition Terms
Intuitive Machines has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd and its US subsidiary, COMSAT, covering lunar and deep space communications, commercial satcom, and defense and security divisions. The transaction includes flagship assets such as the GHY6 32-meter and cryogenically cooled GHY3 30-meter antennas, and is subject to approval under UK and US regulatory frameworks.
2. Network Expansion and Capabilities
Upon closing, the addition of 44 antennas will significantly boost the company’s integrated space-to-ground network, enhancing capacity for deep space communications, data relay, and position, navigation and timing services. Multiband support across X-band, S-band, and Ka/Ku-band will offer customers greater flexibility and persistent line-of-sight connectivity for lunar and cislunar missions.
3. Strategic Impact and Timeline
The acquisition will broaden Intuitive Machines’ customer base by integrating Goonhilly’s civil, commercial, and government clients and strengthen global ground station visibility across major Earth-viewing arcs. Completion is anticipated in Q3 2026, contingent on customary closing conditions and receipt of UK National Security and US FCC approvals.
