Iran insists on diplomatic solution after Trump rejects peace plan

1. Iran awaits US response
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said reopening the Strait of Hormuz depended on Iran’s conditions being met and that only a negotiated solution could resolve the impasse. He said mediators had not officially conveyed a US rejection of the proposal and that Iran would decide how to proceed after receiving their definitive views.
2. Proposal and nuclear stance
Araqchi said the proposal would trigger a seven-day countdown to reopening the strait and a pause in regional fighting, followed by wider talks on mutually agreed subjects. A senior Iranian official said Tehran would make no concessions on its nuclear program, including uranium enrichment or shipping highly enriched uranium out of the country. President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was ready for talks but would not accept “bullying or coercion.”
3. Conflict disrupts oil flows
The seven-month-old conflict has disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and harmed the global economy. The United States has imposed an economic blockade on Iran, while attacks on vessels have sharply reduced shipping through the area.
