A senior Iranian official said Iran and the United States were still far from a deal to end their war. Qatar said both sides were reviewing proposals from mediators, and an official briefed on the talks expected feedback from Washington and Tehran within 36 hours.
2. Strikes and warnings
A US official said overnight strikes on Iran’s Qeshm island targeted surface-to-air missiles used against US assets; another official described the strikes as limited. President Donald Trump said he was not considering striking Iran after the midterm elections.

Qatar said it remained hopeful a deal could pave the way for future negotiations. Iran’s foreign minister said talks with Saudi Arabia were continuing on regional security arrangements, while oil prices rose about 1.3% on Tuesday after dropping more than 7% the previous day.
