USO•Iranian negotiators were in Doha for a third consecutive day of talks with Qatari mediators aimed at a deal to end the US-Israeli war on Iran. The eight-month-old conflict continues to disrupt global oil supplies.
1. Talks continue in Doha
Iranian negotiators were in Doha on Sunday for a third consecutive day of talks with Qatari mediators aimed at reaching a deal to end the US-Israeli war on Iran, an official briefed on the discussions said.
2. Military tensions persist
President Donald Trump has said the United States will not launch new attacks on Iran before the November 3 US midterm elections and that talks with Tehran have been productive, but he has not ruled out military action afterward. Iran has said it would respond to new attacks by striking US and Israeli targets in neighbouring countries. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei ordered the armed forces to prepare for attacks, and the military said it was improving its readiness.
3. Mediators coordinate with Washington
Qatari mediators were in Tehran on Friday before moving the talks to Doha on Saturday, an official said. The talks were being coordinated through regular contacts with Washington. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump had not decided whether to launch new strikes but would prefer a diplomatic resolution.
