Itron Extends ERT License to Unlock Two-Way AMI Data on 80 Million Devices

ITRIITRI

Itron has extended its Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERT) license agreement with Tantalus, enabling full compatibility via TRUConnect AMI across key 60, 100 and 500 Series meters. The deal preserves warranties on over 80 million ERT devices, supports two-way data logging and boosts licensing revenue from legacy AMI deployments.

1. License Extension Details

Itron has renewed its license agreement with Tantalus to support full Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERT) messaging on the TRUConnect AMI platform. The extension explicitly covers Advanced SCM+ messaging and Network Interval Messaging features, granting Tantalus rights to decode and deliver complete ERT data across legacy AMI deployments.

2. Technical Integration and Coverage

The license renewal spans key ERT series—including 60, 100, R300, R400 and 500 meters—allowing utilities to receive hourly interval readings and tamper alerts over fixed networks. Integration with Tantalus’ TRUScan solution automates data collection, preserves existing Itron warranties on more than 80 million devices, and reduces deployment costs.

3. Strategic and Financial Implications

By enabling two-way data logging and full ERT compatibility, Itron secures recurring licensing fees from Tantalus and reinforces its role in grid modernization. The deal provides utilities a cost-efficient upgrade path that leverages existing metering assets while enhancing operational intelligence.
