Itron to Deploy IntelliFLEX LV DERMS for 1M Rooftop Solar in NSW

ITRIITRI

Itron is extending its 15-year collaboration with Ausgrid to deploy its IntelliFLEX LV DERMS for real-time control of 1 million rooftop solar, battery and EV systems across New South Wales to comply with the Emergency Backstop Mechanism. It provides network visibility and export curtailment to prevent system overloads.

1. Deployment Overview

Itron is partnering with Ausgrid to roll out its IntelliFLEX Low Voltage Distributed Energy Resource Management System across Ausgrid’s network, enabling real-time monitoring and control of roughly 1 million rooftop solar, battery and electric vehicle installations in New South Wales.

2. Regulatory Driver

The deployment addresses the NSW Emergency Backstop Mechanism requirement that distributors must be able to temporarily curtail or pause CER exports during low-load events to protect grid stability and prevent potential outages.

3. System Capabilities

IntelliFLEX LV DERMS offers operators enhanced low-voltage network visibility, automated export curtailment, real-time constraint identification and performance monitoring of distributed energy resources to ensure safe and efficient grid operation.

4. Strategic Impact

Building on more than 15 years of collaboration since the initial Meter Data Management System deployment, this contract strengthens Itron’s presence in the Australian market and showcases its Grid Edge Intelligence solutions at the upcoming Energy Networks Australia Conference.
