Itron to Supply 2,000 NB-IoT Ultrasonic Meters in Q3 2026 Pilot
ITRI•Hunter Water will deploy 2,000 Itron Intelis wSource NB-IoT ultrasonic meters in Q3 2026 under its Digital Metering Pilot Program to gain near real-time consumption data and accelerate leak detection. Itron’s Temetra platform will unify digital and mechanical meter data, aiming to reduce non-revenue water and inform customer conservation.
1. Pilot Program Overview
Hunter Water’s Digital Metering Pilot Program will deploy 2,000 Itron Intelis wSource NB-IoT ultrasonic water meters beginning in Q3 2026 to gather near real-time usage data and assess digital metering viability for future water services.
2. Technology and Data Management
Itron’s Temetra cloud-based meter data management solution will consolidate readings from the new ultrasonic meters and existing mechanical devices in a single platform, enabling multi-vendor support and faster data analysis for leak detection and operational decision-making.
3. Impact on Water Loss Reduction
By integrating digital meters capable of near real-time monitoring with Temetra analytics, Hunter Water aims to reduce non-revenue water, accelerate leak detection response times, and build upon its nine-year track record of cutting network leaks by 33 percent.
