Jacobs has been chosen by the Gulf Coast Protection District to lead engineering design for the Bolivar Roads Gate System, one of the world’s largest coastal storm surge barriers. The project will span the narrow strait connecting the Gulf of Mexico to Galveston Bay, protecting more than six million residents and safeguarding approximately $800 billion in regional energy infrastructure. Backed by nearly $1 billion in state funding and developed in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Texas General Land Office, the system will integrate advanced sector gates and digital modeling to ensure maritime traffic continuity along the Houston Ship Channel. With a record of delivering over 1,000 resilience projects globally and approximately $12 billion in annual revenue, Jacobs aims to enhance Gulf Coast resilience, protect critical ecosystems such as wetlands and oyster reefs, and support thousands of port-related jobs.
